Anti-Americanism on USA college campuses

February 25, 2005 by admin

I have noticed a disturbing rash of anti-American sentiment, and blind academic acceptance of that sentiment, growing on our college campuses.
Everyone is familiar with the outrageous Ward Churchill controversy where he equated the victims of 9/11 as the same as Nazi bureaucrats. But there is much more going on in our nation’s liberal bastions of knowledge.
There is this somewhat dated item from Michigan. The speaker, author Walter Mosley, said at a Martin Luther King symposium that thousands of black people he talked to after the attacks of 9/11 said they understood why the terrorists attacked us because they too had been oppressed by the US government like the hijackers.

Oh really? Maybe we need to send Mr. Mosley to the Middle East, North Korea or China to show him what oppression is all about. I’ll put him on the same plane with Matt Foreman of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force who thinks all gays are being oppressed. Oppression is when Mr. Mosley wouldn’t have been allowed to give the speech and would have been beaten senseless before he got to the venue. Sheesh.
Then there is this doozy from Thomas Naughton, a columnist for the Daily Collegian at the University of Massacusetts-Amherst.
No Yellow Ribbons Here – The Daily Collegian

That said, perhaps some readers will understand why my friends and I rip yellow ribbon “support the troops” magnets off of cars or wherever people have affixed them. By ripping off these ribbons, we find a way to deal with our guilt, as though with each ribbon swiped we take back a life that was taken by this senseless war started by our senseless president and those who support him.
I will never say, “support the troops.” I don’t believe in the validity of that statement. People say, “I don’t support the war, I support the troops” as though you can actually separate the two. You cannot; the troops are a part of the war, they have become the war and there is no valid dissection of the two. Other people shout with glaring eyes that we should give up our politics, give up our political affiliations in favor of “just supporting the troops.” I wish everything were that easy.

Who raises kids like this? Is our public school system failing our kids by making them “Hate America First?” My guess is he comes from a privileged wealthy family (limosine liberals).
This is a very sad state of affairs at our college campuses. Luckily we have organizations like the Young America’s Foundation that is fighting back. We need to do our part as well.
