I was troubled this week to see this news item outlining a second instance of Syracuse University — my alma mater — discriminating against the Boy Scouts of America.

Now, the argument by the University is that since Boy Scouts of America don’t allow gays in their organization, the University can refuse to provide them a place to meet and have award dinners. Really…
Well, what about the ROTC (doesn’t the military have “don’t ask, don’t tell”?) What about the many religious organizations, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc. that the University not only supports but houses at its Hendricks Chapel?
And what about the unspoken bigotry of the many other niche student organizations that are supported by each student’s activity fee dollar? There are countless liberal groups on SU’s campus that practically use hate-speech against the President and conservative students. Should the University ban them as well?
Where will this political correctness end? Which groups are okay to shut out of University buidings and which ones are accepted based on their political or social views? And who makes these decisions?

Her lame attempt at humor goes like this:
When asked to comment on the university’s decision, local frat boy Joe McTogawearer reportedly said “Dude, what the hell? It’s not discrimination because the sissy kids were gonna come too. Who’s gonna help these kids get their homophobic linguistics, hate sign design, and closet building merit badges now? Sucks.”
Unfortunately, one of the problems is that the gay community’s leftist leaders will never ditch their anti-religious, anti-free enterprise, pro-socialist and pro-abortion dogmas….maybe we would all be invited nice places too.
Former Boy Scouts include US Senator John Glenn (D-OH), President Gerald Ford, Steven Spielberg, and Neil Armstrong. And the fundamental foundations of the Boy Scouts are trust, honor, love and respect of country and love and respect of God. Having gone most of my early boyhood through the Scouting program, I can tell you there was no anti-gay message given whatsoever.
The Evangelical Secularists in our nation are using the Boy Scouts right to decide which members it has as another excuse to drive a wedge between America and decency and faith. I’d suggest that those criticizing the Boy Scouts with such vitriol have never been through the program themselves.
Do I wish the Boy Scouts would be more inclusive of gays? Of course I do. But on balance the organization does much more good for the boys in the program and for our nation as a whole.
Perhaps the Gay Leftists should embrace capitalism for the first time in their life and create a competitor organization that provides the same community benefits as BSA does. But that would mean our gay leaders would have to look beyond their selfishness toward the greater good. Tall order to ask.
