Upon FINALLY arriving in Portland (see posting below), I immediately headed to the Lewis & Clark College, site of the Lewis & Clark Train Heritage Foundation’s Annual Meeting, to register for the conference.
Man, the weather today in Portland was incredible. Blue skies, warm (okay, hot) sun… and guess what East Coasters…. no humidity! No wonder Lewis and Clark made it out here… if you can survive a Virginia summer, you can handle anything.
I loved this license plate from a fellow attendee who I assume drove from Montana.
After registering, I spent a few minutes walking around the campus of the Lewis & Clark College. Check this out… The land for the college was donated by the family of Lloyd Frank whose house this was. (History of Lewis & Clark College)
And of course, there is a statue of Sacagawea on the campus grounds.
When I saw these stairs…. I knew what PatriotPartner would say… “Can we do that in our backyard?”
Then I drove back to downtown Portland and walked over to see a Lewis & Clark exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society museum. Great museum!
After spending a couple hours there, I walked throughout downtown. I thought this was an awesome picture….
And finally, there was this poster in a storefront of some kind of theater. File it in the “WTF??” file! Is Steve Guttenberg the “Jerry Lewis of Portland”??
Tomorrow, the meeting attendees are headed to Blue Lake Regional Park for the dedication of the Nichaqwli monument. A lot of this meeting involves taking trips to sites where L&C explored. Very cool.
For now, I’m headed to bed. It has been a long day, and looks to be a very long and interesting weekend.
