A number of bloggers across the USA (and perhaps the world) are uniting today to encourage donations to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. I would like to join in that effort and keep this posting at the top of the site all day today.
First, here is an excellent compliation of possible charities that bloggers have found via Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit.
A couple of highlights… I know that Sean Hannity & Clear Channel Communications have set up “StormAid.com”
I am going to make a donation later this morning to the Episcopal Relief and Development charity.
I have also donated frequent flier miles, through United Airlines, to the effort. “United We Stand For Hurricane Katrina Relief” (I might add that this is one of the few times where I have something nice to say about United this summer!)
Finally, I made contact with David, a good friend who used to live in DC but had moved to New Orleans. David is okay and with his family west of Baton Rouge. But I offered to open my house to him if he had no place to stay…. I don’t have a huge home, but can certainly open my house to someone that needs a place to stay… even though I’m many miles away.
With that in mind, I would encourage all of my readers (especially those closer to the disaster area) who are able to host victims in their home to register with “Homes for Katrina Victims.”
