Since Byron York regrets that so few in the media have picked up on a catchy expression by one of the many people who mispresents his own statments in order to criticize President Bush and so gain media attention, I decided to post on that very expression.
You see, when Richard Clarke, the top White House counterterrorism official in the Clinton Administration, began to understand the level of Bush-hatred in the media, he wrote a book critical of the current Administration’s attitude toward the terrorist threat. He chnaged some of his past opinions and mispresented his views in order to better attack the president. Given this man’s lambasting of that much-reviled (in media circles) Administration, he got top billing on 60 Minutes and soon became the darling of the MSM and its preferred political party–the Democrats.
All were certain that his revelations would help bring down President Bush. After W’s defeat in the 2004 election, most assumed Clarke would get a top post in the Kerry Administraiton. Fortunately, that did not come to pass.
Will, despite Mr. Clarke’s frequent criticism of President Bush, his words prior to the liberation of Iraq help prove that the president made a strong case for war. Indeed, they help debunk the spurious charge that that good man lied in making that case. Well aware of the relationship between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein, Mr. Clarke “believed that if the United States made bin Laden’s situation too hot in Afghanistan, then, in Clarke’s non-famous words, ‘old wily Osama will likely boogie to Baghdad.’” Please read all of Mr. York’s piece which can be easily confirmed by checking out the 9/11 Commission Report (p. 134).
The more facts come out, the more apparent it becomes that not only did the president not lie, but that he made a very strong case for leading our nation to war against a bloodthirsty tyrant who, while in power, had been busy building relationships with terrorists bent on attacking America.
Thanks to President Bush, that dictator is no longer in power and can’t very well build relationships with terrorists from a prison cell.

Our exit strategy is victory
Like the folks at Powerline, I don’t always agree with the senior Senator from Arizona. But, when John McCain is right, he’s right, particularly on foreign affairs/military policy (where he usually agrees with the president) and on federal spending (where he is frequently at odds with the Administration). In taking issue with those fair-weather Democrats demanding a timetable for our troops withdrawal from Iraq, the good man from the Grand Canyon State has this to say:
Anyone reading the amendment gets the sense that the Senate’s foremost objective is the draw-down of American troops. What it should have said is that America’s first goal in Iraq is not to withdraw troops, but to win the war. All other policy decisions we make should support, and be subordinate to, the successful completion of our mission.
Morality, national security and the honor our fallen deserve all compel us to see our mission in Iraq through to victory. . . .
We have told insurgents that their violence does grind us down, that their horrific acts might be successful. But these are precisely the wrong messages. Our exit strategy in Iraq is not the withdrawal of our troops, it is victory.
Exactly.
Bye bye Big Apple!
Thanks to all the new friends I met yesterday and last night in New York City. I’m thrilled to be one of the Open Source Media Contributing Blogs and yesterday’s event was outstanding. The highlight of the night was meeting fellow OSM colleague and all-around fantastic lady Tammy Bruce. Not only was she friendly and warm, she is hot! Ah, if only I were a lesbian….
Anyway, it is back home for an overdue reunion with PatriotPooch today and PatriotPartner on Saturday.
Oh… if you see this poor thing wandering the streets of Manhattan, please call me….
It was last seen about 11:05 PM somewhere near 51st & 9th.

Quote of the Day
“The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone – but we’re not going to sit by and let them rewrite history.”

Sen. John Cornyn Joins OSM Launch Live From DC
Republican US Senator John Cornyn from Texas is now speaking live on the big screen from Washington, DC. He’s speaking about legislation to open up Federal government to more “sunshine.”
2:07PM – Sen. Cornyn followed up his “Sunshine Law” discussion with very strong and supportive comments of bloggers and treating them the same as mainstream media outlets in any Federal legislation. “I support keeping the blogosphere free of government regulation.”

OSM Launch Lunch with Judith Miller
Chicken, potatoes and mixed vegetables. That’s what you wanted to know, right?
Instapundit Glenn Reynolds kicked off the lunch presentation with some comments about journalists have formed their own “guild” versus the more grassroots free-wheeling spirit of earlier newspapers and today’s bloggers.
Judith Miller is now addressing the group (did you know she has a blog?) and the impact that bloggers had on her case. She says she had no choice but to go to jail, not only to protect her most famous source, Scooter Libby, but also other (still unnamed sources). And much of the news she received in jail came from visitors who many times brought printed-out blogger accounts.
1:34PM – I just noticed that there is an important new update in the Libby indictment out today via Bob Woodward’s testimony Monday to the Special Prosecutor. Bob Woodward – The Grinch Who Stole Fitzmas – Decision ’08.
Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward testified under oath Monday in the CIA leak case that a senior administration official told him about CIA operative Valerie Plame and her position at the agency nearly a month before her identity was disclosed.
In a more than two-hour deposition, Woodward told Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald that the official casually told him in mid-June 2003 that Plame worked as a CIA analyst on weapons of mass destruction, and that he did not believe the information to be classified or sensitive, according to a statement Woodward released yesterday.
Fitzgerald interviewed Woodward about the previously undisclosed conversation after the official alerted the prosecutor to it on Nov. 3 — one week after Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, was indicted in the investigation.
1:44PM – In the context of the Federal journalist shield law proposed by Rep. Mike Pence, Ms. Miller laid out her Five Commandments for Mainstream Blogging (MSB) Reporting:
1 – Be honest about who you are, who’s writing your blog and where’s your funding comes from.
2 – Try to reach the subject of your story for comment before publishing a story about that person or persons.
3 – If subject of article denies the story, and if that subject has corroboration for denial — say so! It might actually be true.
4 – If you are wrong, acknowledge it.
5 – If you are wrong, be determined to get it right.
I can’t say I disagree. I do not think that the Mainstream Media is living up to all or most of these commandments on a daily basis.

Back to the OSM Launch
Okay, the Barron departure was an interesting tidbit, eh? I guess you can’t be gay without being pro-abortion anymore? Ah, the America As They Want It (TM) as dictated by the GayBorg. But I digress.
(Open Source Media launch meeting live audio link)
The political panel is very interesting, but I think they should have had some non-star types to comment. I feel like I’m being lectured by the same types of people that the blogosphere is supposed to challenge. It would have been a better group if a smaller blogger, with some edge, had been on the panel. But it was a good discussion nonetheless.

There has been a lot of discussion about the falling cost of distribution and how that allows bloggers to reach the same “level” as the New York Times. Like cable TV channels became equal to the old primary network channels in the 1980s.
12:14 PM – As the political panel is winding up before lunch, I wanted to mention that at the breakfast gathering, I had the opportunity to also meet Chad (Cake Or Death?), BoiFromTroy, Syn… our frequent GP commenter (who I love already), PubliusPundit, the BadHairBlogger (who is an ardent GayPatriot fan!), and Asher who helps out at IraqTheModel.

BREAKING NEWS: LOG CABIN LOSES POLITICAL DIRECTOR TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD
Hot off the presses!

For Immediate Release
November 16, 2005
Log Cabin Announces Departure of Political Director
Barron to Lead Republican Outreach Efforts for Planned Parenthood
(Washington, DC) – “Log Cabin Republicans thank Chris Barron for his loyal and professional service to this organization. He has been a huge asset to Log Cabin and we wish him the best in his new position. Chris has helped us achieve important progress in making the conservative case for gay and lesbian equality,” said Log Cabin President Patrick Guerriero.
Chris Barron joined Log Cabin as Political Director in February of 2004. He coordinated Log Cabin’s lobbying efforts to defeat the anti-family Federal Marriage Amendment. Barron also implemented a GOP lobby strategy for HIV/AIDS funding, hate crimes legislation, federal employment non-discrimination legislation, and legislation repealing the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. Early next month, Barron will join the Planned Parenthood Federation of America as the head of Republican outreach efforts.
“Over the past 2 years, Chris Barron was on the front lines fighting for an inclusive GOP, fueling Log Cabin’s unprecedented growth across America, and fighting to defend our families from attacks by the voices of intolerance,” said Guerriero.
“It has been an honor to serve as Log Cabin’s Political Director during one of the most important moments for our organization and for our community. I thank Patrick and the Board for their leadership during my time at Log Cabin,” said Chris Barron. “I look forward to continuing being a part of the Log Cabin family, and continuing to support this organization in its fight for basic fairness for our families.”

Blogging the Launch of Open Source Media
I’m sure I’m not the one to break the news…. but “Pajamas Media” has been officially re-launched as Open Source Media. The launch conference has begun at the 65th Floor of 30 Rockefeller Center in the famous Rainbow Room. The day-long conference is being streamed live via audio at the OSM site. (LIVE STREAM AUDIO LINK)
I’ll be liveblogging throughout the day by expanding this post so as to keep the OSM link with audio at the top.
10:25 AM – Roger L. Simon was introduced by Andrew Breitbart and is now giving the opening remarks and highlights of the new OSM.
During the breakfast reception, I was able to meet some of the big names of the blogosphere including the King himself, Glenn Reynolds. I thanked Glenn for his support of our blog from the very first week. He is a very nice and approachable guy and I was thrilled to have met him first thing.

2005 Weblog Awards — Nominations Are On!
I’m thrilled and honored to have been nominated already in the LGBT Category of the 2005 Weblog Awards. You may remember that WE (GP correction!) placed 2nd behind BoiFromTroy last year… and it was a very very tight vote!
So let’s make sure we win this year!!
-Bruce (GayPatriot)
UPDATE (from GPW): Um, Bruce, we placed 2nd last year. 🙂
Light Blogging, “Voodoo” and the GOP
Although I love words, lately, I have been reluctant to use them, at least not in writing, so I expect blogging to be light for a few days. Perhaps this is because I have been up to my ears in reading (and writing) for class; I have also been busy with other obligations.
When I have had a moment to spare, I have been more introspective than expressive (so to speak). Perhaps some of my ideas will find their way into future posts. Class reading has also kept me thinking. One or our assigned books, Maya Deren’s, Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti , has helped open my eyes to a religion which I had once thought was little more than witchcraft, concerned largely with zombies and kewpie dolls — the focus of ridicule and horror movies.
As I learn that what we call “voodoo” is far more than a cult, I wonder at many things we misunderstand. In reading just a few pages of Deren’s book, we learn how the Voudoun religion developed when European colonists brought West Africans to Caribbean islands as slaves. Those enslaved people developed a new religion, mixing elements of their African spiritual heritage with the Christian tradition of their masters. A rich faith, as complex and nuanced as Christianity, Judaism or even the ancient Greek religion, resulted.
When I compare what the Voudoun religion really is to what I had thought just a month ago, I wonder if many on the Left see the GOP as I once saw (what most people call) “voodoo.” They define it not by what it is, but what others have portrayed it to be. We have, alas, learned about voodoo from those who wish to dismiss it as sorcery and witchcraft. Just as all too often, those on the left dismiss the GOP as a reactionary force. Both are wrong.
Much as I have come to appreciate the richness of the Voudoun tradition, I dare say I will not convert to this fascinating faith. By the same token, I would hope that those on the left would learn to appreciate the GOP for what it is — and not the caricature that its enemies have presented.

People in the hotel must think I’m crazy, because I burst out laughing at seeing this picture on Tammy’s blog this morning.
I’m now headed to the airport, about to endure my ritual United Airlines Torture Experience ™ and fly to the Big Apple to join my new colleagues tomorrow at Pajamas Media.

Gay Republicans — an oxymoron?
“If I had to choose between joining a crowd or making a difference, I would choose to make a difference.”
That’s the closing quote in an interesting article on Gay Republicans just published by the Gay & Lesbian Times.
Read the whole article…. it is worth it. One interesting recurrent theme is the overwhelming personal hostility borne by gay Republicans by their own “tolerant” gay community. Thus, the final quote.
I couldn’t agree more.

Log Cabin Republicans Respond to Foreman’s ‘Immoral’ Comment
Just passing along this response I received from Chris Barron at Log Cabin Republicans earlier today. I’d have posted sooner, but I’m on Pacific time… and have been on the floor of the San Diego Convention Center all day. (Feet…hurt….make…pain…stop…)
Patrick never comments directly on the opinions of other Executive Directors. Log Cabin’s position, however, is clear. LGBT Americans and organizations must reach out to Republicans, conservative Democrats, people of faith and red state Americans. We need to build grassroots so that our wins occur not only in courtrooms, but in legislatures and ballot boxes across the country.
It at least appears that Log Cabin doesn’t believe American democracy is “immoral”…..

US Gay “Rights” Leader Denounces Democracy As ‘Immoral’
Matt Foreman, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and self-described socialist, is now in the hunt to replace Howard Dean as the Fortune 500 Left Wing Loon of the Year.
“What I really want people to understand is rather than seeing these as political contests, these are really profound, unfair, bordering on immoral elections,” Foreman told Reuters on Saturday. “Imagine if this was being done to a minority in Kosovo — people would be outraged.” (Hat tip: Right Side of the Rainbow)
So let’s see….. when you lose an election because you haven’t changed people’s opinion… they are the ones who are immoral. When you subvert the democratic process and storm into the court system to force feed gay marriage without reaching out to mainstream America…. they are the ones who are immoral.
Perhaps it is time for Mr. Foreman to move to a country he is more comfortable with? One where they embrace socialism, border on anti-capitalism, border on anti-Christian, and have fully embraced their “minority” population….

So now I would like to demand that Matt’s comrades-in-gay-marriage, Patrick Guerriero (Log Cabin Republican president) and Joe Solomonese (head of the Human Rights Campaign), to publicly state whether or not they believe American democracy is “immoral.”
If they do not, they need to publicly condemn Mr. Foreman’s words and demand an apology.
Mr. Foreman does not speak for me or millions of other gay Americans who love this country, revel in the freedoms we do have, celebrate capitalism, celebrate religious freedom, and look forward to the day that gays are more accepted in our society as they are more and more each day. I value my rights as an American, even if you do not, Mr. Foreman. If France isn’t to your liking…. what about Iran? Sometimes you value the things you take for granted the most when you don’t have them anymore.
In any case….Mr. Foreman — Do Not Speak In My Name.

If It’s Sunday, It Must Be…. San Diego!
Yep, I’m in one of my all-time favorite American cities until Tuesday!!!
I’m here for a medical conference for work.
I had an interesting dinner last night. It was as if the hotel restaurant knew all about me and decided to punish me. The food was great. But the caberet singer sang old ’60’s folk songs (think about it… they are 40 year old songs now!!!) and a song in FRENCH. Ugh. I had to take an Ambien to get the whole thing out of my memory banks.
….what was I saying?…..
Anyway, hello San Diego!!!
New York City is next on my agenda this week for the big launch Wednesday of the Pajamas Media (with new name) venture. The GayPatriot blog is a Special Contributor… or something like that. I’ll be live blogging from the Rainbow Room at 30 Rockefeller Center on Wednesday. Judy Miller ex-of the New York Times, Glenn Reynolds, Roger Simon, Michelle Malkin and Charles Johnson (LGF) among many others will be there. It is a blog-feast right before Thanksgiving. Rumor also has it that GayPatriot and BoiFromTroy will come face to face!!! *grin*
But first I have to soak in the warm Southern California sun for the next couple of days…. or breathe in the stale air of the convention center is more likely.

GOP presidential victory in ‘08 inevitable?
If history is any guide, Republicans should again win the White House in 2008. You see, every time in U.S. history that Republicans have won successive presidential elections in years end in “0” and “4,” they also win the following presidential election — in a year ending in “8.”
1860 Lincoln; 1864 Lincoln; 1868 Grant.
1900 McKinley; 1904 T. Roosevelt; 1908 Taft.
1920 Harding; 1924 Coolidge; 1928 Hoover.
1980 Reagan; 1984 Reagan; 1988 H.W. Bush.
2000 W. Bush; 2004 W. Bush. . . .
Cheer up, Democrats, there’s always 2012. In only one of those aforementioned cycles, back in the 1800s, did the GOP win the election four years later. In 1872, Ulysses S. Grant was elected to a second term.
O’Reilly Vs. San Fran

I nearly doubled over in laughter when I read this item as I awoke this morning…..
O’Reilly Blasted For Coit Tower Comments – KRON4.com
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Supervisor Chris Daly is firing back at Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly for comments he made on his radio show Wednesday that encouraged al-Qaida to “blow up” Coit Tower.
O’Reilly reacted to San Franciscans’ approval of Proposition I, which discourages military recruiters on public high school and college campuses.
Note to San Fran: I don’t advocate a terror attack on you. So I diverge with ole Bill on that part. But I wholeheartedly AGREE with the sentiment behind his remarks and support this proposal he made:
You know, if I’m the president of the United States, I walk right into Union Square, I set up my little presidential podium, and I say, “Listen, citizens of San Francisco, if you vote against military recruiting, you’re not going to get another nickel in federal funds. Fine. You want to be your own country? Go right ahead.” – via ThePoliticalTeen
Smokin’ Bill went over the line when he kept going, though…..
And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we’re not going to do anything about it. We’re going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.
However, I say ‘BRAVO’ for the idea that we stop all Federal funding to San Francisco. Not only due to the vote to stop military recruiting, but also the fact that it has been San Fran LIBERALS that brazenly trampled on the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution by outlawing handgun ownership by residents.
Whatever world they live in… they can have it to themselves. I do not want any of MY tax money going to support a city that clearly does not want to be part of the United States of America. But I certainly don’t want to see these former Americans living in the People’s Republic of Cisco hurt in a terrorist attack. Bill hurt his point tremendously by continuing his rant. Sometimes you just need to stop talking… or blogging. *grin*

Bush Fights Back Against Democrat Terror Appeasers
“The stakes in the global War on Terror are too high, and the national interest is too important, for politicians to throw out false charges.
These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America’s will.
As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who send them to war continue to stand behind them.
Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough.
And our troops deserve to know that whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our Nation is united, and we will settle for nothing less than victory.” — President George W. Bush, November 11, 2005
(Note… as Jordanians yell “to hell with Zarqawi”, elected US Democrats still think President Bush is the enemy and embrace the Michael Moore philosophy. That says a lot to me about the Liberals’ true desire to fight the War on Terror and protect me and my family and friends.)
