Today, I am inaugurating a new topic, “Gay P.C. Silliness.” Under this topic, we will blog on actions or statements where gay writers, activists or leaders make absurd comments in their pursuit of “gay rights” or in their consideration of the position of gays in contemporary society. Please feel free to e-mail us linking us to some of the silly comments you find. Perhaps, we will find some suitable way to honor the person who comes ups with the silliest case of gay political correctness.
The inaugural post on this topic is about a word heretofore unknown to me–heteronormative–which one web-site defines as “Those punitive rules (social, familial, and legal) that force us to conform to hegemonic, heterosexual standards for identity. The term is a short version of “normative heterosexuality.” So, amused was I by the story I relate below that I googled heterormative and came up with more than 35,000 hits.
Last week, I read on OpinionJournal’s Best of the Web about a group of gay students at Harvard upset that actress Jada Pinkett Smith made heteronormative comments, narrowly defining “the roles of men and women in relationships.” Apparently, “some of Pinkett Smith’s remarks concerning appropriate gender roles were specific to heterosexual relationships.” Oh no! A straight woman talking about heterosexual relationships!

Barney Frank’s “sharp partisanship”
Although openly gay Massachusetts Democratic Congressman Barney Frank distinguished himself at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland by taking on the anti-American bias of Eason Jordan, CNN’s then-Chief News Executive, he has recently returned to his narrow partisan ways. Earlier this week, he blasted New York’s Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg for appealing a “state judge’s ruling ordering the city to provide marriage licenses to same-sex couples.”
Frank, however, did not mention that the Empire State’s likely Democratic gubernatorial nominee for ’06, Eliot Spitzer, like New York City’s Republican Mayor, also favors appealing the state court decision. Nor did he attack either of New York’s Democratic Senators (Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton) who, unlike Mayor Bloomberg, oppose gay marriage.
Thus, like so many gay activists, Barney Frank’s opposition to Mayor Bloomberg’s decision is mere partisan grandstanding. It’s not the Mayor’s stand that bothers him so much as the Mayor’s political affiliation. That irritating R after his name. Gay City News reporter Andy Humm got it right when he wrote the Frank is “not unknown for his sharp partisanship.”

Quote on lesbians, gay men & politics
While my blog-league claims to be a lesbian, I too have been called a lesbian. (If there’s adequate interest, I’ll relate a story where a real lesbian insisted that I was a lesbian.)
Anyway, I’m trying to track down a quote for a post I’m working on. Does anyone know who said this (or something like it): “I’ve heard of women becoming lesbians for political reasons, but never of a man becoming gay for political reasons.” I want to get the quotation right, put it into context and identify the clever individual who initially made this observation.
Please e-mail me or comment if you have information about the source of the expression bolded above.
Thanks!

9/11 Worries Led to 1,200 More US Deaths
Interesting! Hat Tip: Right Side of the Rainbow.
Post Sept-11 US Driving…Another Toll of Attacks – Reuters (Ed. Note: the headline was so poorly written, I had to add the “…” for it to make some sense!)
Americans were so worried about air travel after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that they crowded the nation’s roadways, boosting the traffic fatality rate by nearly 1,200 deaths, researchers said on Thursday.
“These additional lives lost on the road represent a cost of terrorism that is more persistent, if less visible, than casualties of the 9/11 attacks themselves,” said the authors of a new study — “The Impact of Sept. 11 on Road Fatalities: The Other Lives Lost to Terrorism.”
NFL: Gay “OK”, Lesbian “No Way”
This one is for all you sports fans out there….
War of words: ‘Gay’ was not OK on NFL fan jerseys, ‘lesbian’ still banned – WashingtonBlade.com
At the time, ?gay? was one of more than 1,100 words and phrases deemed off-limits by the NFL, according to a list obtained by Outsports and posted on its site. The list included relatively tame phrases like ?Cocky? and ?Poor White Trash,? along with more eye-popping profanity including ?Ass Blaster? and ?Sperm Herder.?
Gay-affirming phrases like ?Lesbian? and ?Gay Pride? are also forbidden, as is ?Jesus Christ,? according to the list.
So, I’m guessing “homoerotic” probably is a “no, no” too?
Cat Shoots Man
That’s no big surprise. Cats are sinister….

Time for HRC to change its mission statement
My blog-league has already commented (here, here and here) on Human Rights Campaign‘s selection of Joe Solmonese as its new president.
Someone who has spent twelve years working for an organization “dedicated to taking back our country from the radical right wing by electing pro-choice Democratic women to federal, state, and local office” is hardly going to help HRC fulfill its mission to “effectively” lobby a Congress with both Houses controlled by Republicans.
Simply put, how can Solmonese expect to gain access to Republican offices when he has spent so much time working to elect Democrats? Scanning a list of the women Solmonese’s previous employer helped elect shows some of the most liberal members of Congress. Connections to Barbara Boxer and Cynthia McKinney will hardly help him curry favor with America’s majority party.
Aside: would HRC complain if a Republican group has hired as its new president an individual who had worked for a group which discriminated against women by working to elect only men with a certain political agenda?
The selection of Joe Solmonese confirms what I have long observed about HRC. Its claim that it is a “bipartisan organization” is mere window-dressing. Even Log Cabin’s Chris Barron acknowledges that HRC has become a Democratic organization: “The selection of an experienced Democratic activist will allow HRC to solidify and strengthen Democratic support for equality.”
It’s time for HRC to change its mission statement. And time for the gay community to recognize that this group which deems itself “America’s largest gay and lesbian organization” is making no effort to reach out to the political party a majority of Americans chose last fall to run our federal government.

Lesbians
There’s no story here….. but it seems like everytime I do a posting that has “Lesbian” in the title… the traffic spikes and the comments overflow.
So consider this an experiment.
Why? Because I’m a lesbian, of course.
Anti-War Liberals: Democracy Only Applies to Anglo-Euros
What other conclusion can you come to? The anti-war radicals in the United States, supported by the gay community elite I might add, pour into the streets against their own country’s attempts to get rid of a murderous dictator. But where, oh where, is A.N.S.W.E.R. and the other lefty nutties when there is an opportunity to protest in SUPPORT of democracy and freedom in the Arab World?

Thursday Morning Glitches
Good morning everyone. There seems to be a problem with our server this morning. The little green elves behind the curtain are working on it. If you make it to the site, consider this post “Open Thread Thursday.”
MSNBC: Al-Qaeda Wanted to Kidnap Russell Crowe
Dammit, Osama… wait your place in line!
Al-Qaeda Plot To Kidnap Russell Crowe? – MSNBC.com
Russell Crowe says Osama bin Laden?s al-Qaida terror network wanted to kidnap him as part of a ?cultural destabilization plot,? according to an Australian magazine.
The New HRC Slogan…

Man, I love our readers!!! The “Equal” sign becomes the “Pause” symbol as seen on many electronic items. That is probably generous given that HRC now seems to be going in the opposite direction of America.
BREAKING NEWS: HRC HIRES PRO-ABORTION ACTIVIST WITH TIES TO GEORGE SOROS
Christian Grantham broke the news first… he has the official word this morning.
HRC Confirms: Joe Solomonese Is New President and CEO
From an email sent out by the Human Rights Campaign….
“At HRC, he will not only continue building an extraordinary bipartisan political operation, he will also develop innovative programs to talk to America about GLBT lives.
Joe is excited to expand the conversation with America beyond the political to the personal, engaging with communities of faith, communities of color, and empowering all GLBT Americans and their families and friends.”
*choking on my bagel*
Hey Joe…. tip number one…. don’t tell these communities of faith what you did in your former job as the head of Emily’s List. I guess HRC can’t deny anymore that they are a pro-abortion organization when they call PatriotPartner trolling for money again.
Oh, and here’s a great addition to Joe’s resume for Red State America to learn all about. GayPatriotWest found out last week that Ol’ Joe is a board member of “America Votes, Inc.” an umbrella group for all of America’s favorite left wing radical groups. So the new head of HRC sits on the board of an organization whose top contributor is George Soros! At least Log Cabin Republicans won’t be the only gay rights group shut out of the White House.
Yeah, just what the gay community needs right now to earn respect in Majority America… to be expanding their radical ways by hiring a pro-abortionist with ties George Soros to lead their largest and most public organization. Good Lord!
Is Vietnam Becoming The Next Iraq?
Oh man… do I love the premise of this or what? I’m so sick of hearing that every American military campaign is “the new Vietnam” so this take on the spread of democracy is priceless! Hat tip, The Corner.
Saigon’s Sharansky – Will Vietnam be the next Iraq? – OpinionJournal.com
So it happens that a message reached me last weekend from within one of the world’s most repressive states: Vietnam. Word came that the Sharansky of Saigon, democratic dissident Nguyen Dan Que, had been released from his latest stretch in Vietnam’s prisons.
Given that Vietnam’s secret police almost certainly eavesdrop on any contact he has with the wider world, I was prepared for a discreet and carefully phrased conversation, meant to minimize his risk. Dr. Que was not. He got straight to the point: “What I want is liberty for my people.” The question now, he said, “is how to make regime change in Vietnam.” For democratization of his country, he added, “support from the rest of the world is important.” Specifically, he wants Hanoi’s decaying communist party to “put forward a timetable for free and fair elections.”
Thank goodness we elected a President who stands up to tyrannical regimes as a plank of the War on Terror. And not the alternative candidate who coddled the North Vietnamese repressive regime when he was wearing the uniform of the United States military at the time.
Gay Group in Indiana to Host Fred Phelps
Hey, I’ll give major kudos here to the Equal Rights Coalition in Indiana. Inviting Fred Phelps to participate in a debate on gay rights!?! Man… I wouldn’t be in the same room with him, but this is definitely a very smart and strategic step for the ERC to do. Just let the guy talk and talk and talk. My only hope is that the forum attendees keep their cool and just let Fred look like the fool he is.
If any of you out there are close enough to attend, consider yourself an official correspondent and let us know what happens!

A Fresh Approach from Evangelicals?
As I start this post, let me state clearly I am NOT a supporter of the “ex-gay” ministry stuff. Not, not, not. So the disclosure on this article is that the author of the book profiled appears to be from the “ex-gay” crowd. So if you can get past that…
Loving Homosexuals as Jesus Would – TownHall.com
I thought the article was very interesting. Is the “political Christian” movement realizing that, at long last, gays are not going anywhere and there are too many to convert back now?
Should loving them be contingent upon them renouncing their homosexuality? Nope.
“Often LGBT people refuse to accept our message simply because they perceive an ulterior motive on our part. They know that, often, Christians who show them love are doing it only so we can eventually talk them into “going straight.” So we must show love to homosexuals regardless of whether they want to change. Real love does not demand anything in return.”
Unconditional love — now there’s a novel idea. When a call to unconditional love can be legitimately described as a fresh Christian approach, something has gone very wrong.
Should we then not ask ourselves if we should treat anti-gay Christian activists as Jesus Would?
And, perhaps should the real question for the gay community be “shouldn’t gay landlords want to rent to Christian evangelicals?” — the reverse of the question Ryan Zempel poses at the beginning of his column.
Just doing what I can to bring you the stories you won’t see other places…. and let you talk amongst yourselves….
Roger Simon on Bill Clinton
Roger Simon offers some valuable insight on the former president:
His problem is that he was and is President Zelig, unable to experience conflict at a level which would allow him to stand by his opinions or even remember them. In some ways this kind of excessive empathy has value. When it comes to dealing with religious dictatorship, it is a moral and physical disaster, for the people of those countries most of all.
Read the whole thing. Roger also has a post on the “Good Bill.”
Log Cabin in Charlotte, N.C.
One of my many correspondents, who runs a swell blog of her own, is trying to set up a chapter of Log Cabin in Charlotte, North Carolina and asked that I give y’all a headsup about their meeting with LCR National Field Director Jeff Cook who’ll be down in the Tar Heel State on Friday. This post gives the details and discusses their efforts to set up a chapter.
American Idol Thoughts
I’m just finished watching American Idol 4 tonight and frankly, I agree (as usual with Simon)… tonight’s show with the remaining female contestants is boring.
So, can we please just dispense with the window dressing? Nadia Turner is going to win American Idol. She is in a different league than all of the other contestants. (VOTE FOR HER NOW! 1-866-IDOLS-05)
I despise Mikalah Gordon. She makes my skin crawl. But I’ll give her this, she has an awesome voice. I just can’t stand her!!!!
Our DC area favorite son, Travis Tucker (yum!) didn’t do so well last night, alas. PatriotPartner thinks if he’d wear tighter shirts, he’d be doing better. Heh.

Aside from his picture, here are a couple of more great reasons he should win (from his profile):
Who are your heroes in life?
Father
If you win, who will you thank first?
God
He just got better looking. *grin*
My pick for guy contestant who possibly, but probably won’t, dethrone Nadia… Anwar Robinson. Best male voice of the remaining guys. And guess who he’s going to thank if he wins? Yep, God.
Where are guys like these during the Oscars?
