If history is any guide, Republicans should again win the White House in 2008. You see, every time in U.S. history that Republicans have won successive presidential elections in years end in “0” and “4,” they also win the following presidential election — in a year ending in “8.”
1860 Lincoln; 1864 Lincoln; 1868 Grant.
1900 McKinley; 1904 T. Roosevelt; 1908 Taft.
1920 Harding; 1924 Coolidge; 1928 Hoover.
1980 Reagan; 1984 Reagan; 1988 H.W. Bush.
2000 W. Bush; 2004 W. Bush. . . .
Cheer up, Democrats, there’s always 2012. In only one of those aforementioned cycles, back in the 1800s, did the GOP win the election four years later. In 1872, Ulysses S. Grant was elected to a second term.
In the Wake of Katrina, Rudy’s Looking Pretty Good
In her column at townhall.com, Polipundit’s Lorie Byrd thinks “in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and with the mission in Iraq and the Middle East still far from over,” my man for ’08, Rudy Giuliani, looks pretty good as a presidential prospect. She notes how the leadership he showed in the wake of 9/11 makes him an especially strong contender. He has a “proven ability to perform under pressure” and “is already known as a uniter and a strong leader.” It’s a good piece on a great man and as Glenn Reynolds would say, read the whole thing.
Update from GP: Join me in voting for Rudy at Patrick Ruffini’s September Straw Poll !
How to beat Hillary in ‘08
Today, while driving through Hollywood, I saw my first “Hillary Clinton ’08” bumper sticker. When that car changed lanes, I smiled for the car in front of this one sported a “Viva, Bush!” bumper sticker. I gave a thumbs up to this Hispanic driver, delighted to know that despite our different backgrounds, we supported the president.
Last night, on Hannity & Colmes, former Clinton advisor Dick Morris said that Hillary has basically already sewn up the 2008 Democratic nomination and has a good chance to be elected president just under four years hence. A week ago, in his Best of the Web column, James Taranto made a similar comment:
the most likely next president of the United States is Hillary Clinton. We’re not saying the odds of a Clinton presidency are higher than 50%, just that they’re higher than for any other individual.
While I agree that the odds of Hillary becoming president are less than 50%, I still think (alas!) that she has a good shot of winning.

Condi — Our Official Diva
Got an email this morning from GPW…. he saw this pic on Blaster’s Blog and rightly said that Condi Rice is hot and is his new diva. I agree, and had to reprint the photo. Oh please let her run for President in 2008.

UPDATE (from GPW): When I e-mailed GP, I forgot to tip my hat to Polipundit for alerting me to this picture. Check out Lorie’s post and follow the links both in comments as well as the post for some good stuff on our diva. Guess it’s time to take down my Ethel Merman poster and replace it with a picture of Condi.
Condi Rice in 2008?
I hate to take away from the “welcome post” today, but I just saw this posting from Roger L. Simon: America’s Black Queen.
Man, I would love for Condi to be on the ticket in 2008. My assumption is it would be stretch for her to make the VP slot, given the hard conservatives control of the primary/convention process.
I actually wonder if what Boxer is REALLY worried about is Condi running for US Senate in California at some point?
Now make sure you scroll down and read the “welcome post.” *grin*
