President Bush’s Speech on War On Terror

October 6, 2005 by admin

(Hat tip: The Political Teen)
Just a reminder that we are indeed in a world war against a political movement that declared war on America many years ago. And what is at stake. Some of us have forgotten. The terrorist political movement has not.

The terrorists regard Iraq as the central front in their war against humanity. We must recognize Iraq as the central front in our War on Terror.
Some have also argued that extremism has been strengthened by the actions of our coalition in Iraq, claiming that our presence in that country has somehow caused or triggered the rage of radicals. I would remind them that we were not in Iraq on September the 11th, 2001 — and al Qaeda attacked us anyway. The hatred of the radicals existed before Iraq was an issue, and it will exist after Iraq is no longer an excuse. The government of Russia did not support Operation Iraqi Freedom, and yet the militants killed more than 180 Russian schoolchildren in Beslan.
The influence of Islamic radicalism is also magnified by helpers and enablers. They have been sheltered by authoritarian regimes, allies of convenience like Syria and Iran, that share the goal of hurting America and moderate Muslim governments, and use terrorist propaganda to blame their own failures on the West and America, and on the Jews. These radicals depend on front operations, such as corrupted charities, which direct money to terrorist activity.

I would ask you to consider if the American news media and elements of the Democratic Party are part of the “helpers and enablers.”

Like the ideology of communism, our new enemy is dismissive of free peoples, claiming that men and women who live in liberty are weak and decadent. Zarqawi has said that Americans are, quote, “the most cowardly of God’s creatures.” But let’s be clear: It is cowardice that seeks to kill children and the elderly with car bombs, and cuts the throat of a bound captive, and targets worshipers leaving a mosque. It is courage that liberated more than 50 million people. It is courage that keeps an untiring vigil against the enemies of a rising democracy. And it is courage in the cause of freedom that once again will destroy the enemies of freedom.
The terrorists are as brutal an enemy as we’ve ever faced. They’re unconstrained by any notion of our common humanity, or by the rules of warfare. No one should underestimate the difficulties ahead, nor should they overlook the advantages we bring to this fight.
Some observers look at the job ahead and adopt a self- defeating pessimism. It is not justified. With every random bombing and with every funeral of a child, it becomes more clear that the extremists are not patriots, or resistance fighters — they are murderers at war with the Iraqi people, themselves.

SCOTUS Nominee Harriet Miers

October 3, 2005 by admin

None of us know much about her, but I have a couple of predictions to make based on this profile in the Washington Post…..
1 – DailyKos and the others on the Anti-Religious Left will seize on this paragraph and insist she must be a lesbian.

Miers, who is not married and does not have children, was active in professional organizations and eventually was elected head of the Dallas and Texas bar associations, where she was known for encouraging members to do pro bono work.

After all isn’t every strong, single woman with no kids a lesbian?
(GP Editor’s Note — Confederate Yankee confirms I was right!)
2 – The Human Rights Campaign will oppose her nomination unless she publicly accepts her obvious lesbianism, has this week or proves she has had an abortion in the past. The HRC will call her a “threat to the future of mankind and future architect of the Montana Gay Concentration Camps.”
3 – Log Cabin Republicans will issue a wussy statement about their wanting questions answered and a fair process established in the Senate confirmation hearings, and express hope that….ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Even though I am confident that a ton of gay Republicans in DC must know Ms. Miers and/or her staff either professionally or through friends since she has worked in the Bush White House for years. Now that I think about it, maybe for Christmas I will give the Log Cabin Board and staff a new set of balls. For their ‘holiday tree,’ of course.
Ms. Miers is now for you to pick apart as I delve into my manic Monday.
UPDATE UNO: Unofficial members of the “BlogLeague of Gay conservatives (BLOG-c)” have their take on Ms. Miers’ pick. Chad (Cake Or Death?) thinks Bush has chosen a nominee that he expects will be shot down.
The Malcontent says if conservatives and liberals have at least something good to say about Harriet Miers, that is OK with me. It would seem that there is still more than a little bit of a “uniter” left in this President.
UPDATE DOS: Here’s the expected yawner from Log Cabin Republicans.

(Washington, DC)—”Log Cabin looks forward to a thorough and thoughtful review of Harriet Miers’ nomination to the United States Supreme Court. Recognizing the importance and impact of the Supreme Court, we support the confirmation of all fair-minded jurists to the bench. Given the lack of a public record on Ms. Miers, the confirmation hearings will be a critically important part of the confirmation process. Log Cabin will carefully study Ms. Miers testimony during this confirmation process, particularly as it relates to questions of basic fairness for gay and lesbian Americans.”

UPDATE TRES:The Human Rights Campaign has a less-than-over-the-top-and-bilious reaction so far, to my surprise. Hmmm.. is it because she is a lesbian?

Pataki Nixes “Freedom Center” at Ground Zero

September 29, 2005 by admin

Perhaps the tide is beginning to shift in favor of pro-American views in our country, as Dan suggests below happened in Hollywood in 1985. Pataki’s decision to scrap the “International Freedom Center” may be the first sign that Americans are fed up with the political correctness of the War on Terror and the symbols associated with it.
GayPatriot Blog Ally Robert Shurbet announced the news. Robert’s efforts at TakeBackTheMemorial were started by the op-ed column from Debra Burlingame, the sister of Charles F. “Chic” Burlingame III, pilot of American Airlines fight 77, which was crashed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. (As you may recall, one of my closest friends was also on board AA Flight 77 that morning.)
Pataki’s statement:

FOR RELEASE: IMMEDIATE, Wednesday September 28, 2005
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR GEORGE E. PATAKI
I strongly believe in this nation’s core principle of freedom and I personally believe that the celebration of freedom is not inconsistent with the goals of memorializing our nearly 3,000 lost heroes. The creation of an institution that would show the world our unity and our resolve to preserve freedom in the wake of the horrific attacks is a noble pursuit.
But freedom should unify us. This Center has not.
Since June, we have offered the International Freedom Center (IFC) the time they needed to clarify their intentions and work with stakeholders to reach a consensus. Today there remains too much opposition, too much controversy over the programming of the IFC and we must move forward with our first priority, the creation of an inspiring memorial to pay tribute to our lost loved ones and tell their stories to the world.
Therefore, the IFC cannot be located on the Memorial quadrant. I have asked the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) to work with the IFC to explore other locations for the Center. In addition, I am directing the LMDC to continue its efforts to identify programming for the Memorial quadrant that will tell the story of September 11th.
I would also ask all parties to now join together and unite behind fulfilling our solemn obligation to the families of those we lost. We must reclaim the spirit that we saw the days and weeks after September 11th, a spirit of unity, resolution and purpose and we must come together to build a lasting memorial for the generations to come.

Michelle Malkin has a more complete roundup of reaction.
This grassroots American effort to keep the integrity of Ground Zero is proof to the power of the blogosphere and its impact. Robert, thanks for your help. You were there for me when I needed your support…. and now you have done a great service to the memory of those who perished on September 11. This nation should be truly grateful for your tireless work over the past several months.

Commander-In-Chief Geena Davis

September 28, 2005 by admin

As Doc Brown said in the Back to the Future movies when told Ronald Reagan was President in the future…. “Ha! What next, Jack Benny for Secretary of the Treasury?” With Geena Davis as President, do we get Susan Sarandon as Secretary of State?
Chad at Cake or Death has a spot-on review of the new ABC TV drama.
Against my better judgment, I also watched the show knowing full well that one of the writers/consultants is none other than Satan’s sister, Eleanor “Screech” Clift. Since I’m lazy, I’m glad Chad captured many of the thoughts I would have written this morning.

The issue here isn’t really the fact that a chick is running the show, it’s how she got the job. A Republican candidate with a 40% approval rating chooses an “independent” female as a running mate to up his poll numbers. Not based on merit. Not based on experience. She’s got a pair of fun-pillows and a hoo-ha. He then makes the mistake of having a brain aneurysm and dies.

Okay, I doubt I would have used the word “hoo-ha.”
Anyway, I really *wanted* to like the show. Otherwise I wouldn’t have wasted an hour of my time last night. Or I would have watched “House” on FOX, a much better drama.
‘Commander’ just stretched the realm of believeability from start to finish. Not that a woman would be President. I actually believe it will happen in the next two or three election cycles, in fact. But every other part of the show was just eye-rollingly ridiculous. An ‘independent’ former Member of Congress-then Chancellor of a university has a right-wing…. teenage daughter? The nasty (but great character) right-wing Speaker of the House winkingly shuts down Geena’s TelePrompter during her first speech to Congress? Come on.
“The West Wing” is also not exactly a bastion of conservative values on television. But it has been at times very well written, and most importantly, believeable.
I hate to make predictions because I’m pretty bad at it. But I don’t think Geena will be in the Oval Office for long.

Pope Benedict XVI & NGLTF — an appalling policy, an offensive release

September 23, 2005 by admin

If you want evidence of where the gay movement is failing gay people, you only need look at this press release from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF). For once, I basically agree with the Task Force, but find their rhetoric way over the top and counterproductive. It offends those they should be trying to convince.
They fault Pope Benedict XVI for favoring an “‘Instruction’ that gay men should not be ordained as Roman Catholic priests.” That is, the church would “bar even celibate gay men from seminaries” Instead of calling the practice wrong, narrow-minded, unfair or discriminatory, all terms which I would use, NGTLF’s Executive Director Matt Foreman calls it “evil” and accuses the Church of “unbridled hatred” of gay people.
This over-the-top rhetoric obscures the merits of their case. I had to read the release twice before realizing that I basically agreed with the Task Force on this one. It does them no good to call the church evil — or to attack the Church as Foreman does. His screed will not succeed in convincing many people (who do not already have a negative opinion of the Catholic Church) of the extreme nature of this “instruction.”

Calif. Gays Go Over The Top… Again

September 21, 2005 by admin

Yep, this is a great way to appeal to the 61% of Californians who voted against accepting gay marriage in the state in 2000: Equate Gov. Schwarzenegger, and those same voters indirectly, with the racist policies of the late Alabama Gov. George Wallace.
Commercial Compares Schwarzenegger to Wallace – CBS 5 (San Francisco)

Gay rights activists plan to air a television commercial this week that compares Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s forthcoming veto of a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in California to the segregationist policies of former Alabama Gov. George Wallace.

Because Lord knows, when ever you oppose any political issue of the Secular Left, you are obviously a racist.
RELATED UPDATE: Chad at Cake Or Death points out that the gay rights groups in Massachusetts now have the LibDem Party all in a twist…..

State Speaker Sal DiMasi (D) “has no realistic choice other than to allow a vote of the legislators inasmuch as the Democratic support of homosexual marriage is destroying his Party in this state.”

-Bruce (GayPatriot)
UP-UPDATE (from GPW): On the day after his second blogiversary, BoifromTroy notes that a Reiner (AKA Meathead) Strategist is Behind the Attacks on the Governator. And he thinks Equality California may be becoming a “fringe-organization in California Politics instead of a useful means to advance gay and lesbian rights in the State.”

Meeting Gays in Egypt

September 20, 2005 by admin

I guess today is Middle Eastern Day at GP? Here’s an interesting posting from The Big Pharaoh’s trip to Egypt.
Meeting Egypt’s Gays

Gays in Egypt have to take maximum care because sometimes the authorities here leave the corrupt businessmen and the criminals and arrest homosexuals instead. “We try to stay close to each other, we don’t usually open up to those we don’t know” I was told.
Amazingly, the guys were well aware of what’s happening around the world. They were aware of the same sex marriage debate that’s going on in the U.S and other countries, and they unanimously expressed their disapproval towards gay marriage and gay foster parents. See, that’s the irony. Religion plays a huge role in the definition of the personality of any Egyptians no matter how observant he/she is. Even though those guys are gay, they know that as far as religion is concerned they are committing a sin, and so legal sex marriage is something that shouldn’t be even considered.

In Memoriam Simon Wiesenthal

September 20, 2005 by admin

One of the great voices of conscience of the last century has fallen silent. Simon Wiesenthal, a survivor of five Nazi death camps who spent the better part of the past six decades tracking down Nazi war criminals and speaking out for tolerance, died in his sleep early this morning at his home in Vienna. He was 96.
Calling Wiesenthal “the conscience of the Holocaust,” Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the LA-based Simon Wiesenthal Center, added:

When the Holocaust ended in 1945 and the whole world went home to forget, he alone remained behind to remember. He did not forget. He became the permanent representative of the victims, determined to bring the perpetrators of the history’s greatest crime to justice. There was no press conference and no president or Prime Minister or world leader announced his appointment. He just took the job. It was a job no one else wanted.

Having lost 89 relatives in the Holocaust, Wiesenthal brought over 1,100 Nazi war criminals to justice and devoted his life to fighting prejudice and promoting tolerance. He understood that “there is no freedom without justice.”
Born in Bucacz in what is now Ukraine, Wiesenthal, trained as an architect, was forced to work in a bedspring factory after the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact of 1939. The Nazis arrested him when they took over his town in 1941. While imprisoned in one camp, Wiesenthal was taken to the besdside of a dying Nazi soldier who had asked him, as a Jew, for forgiveness for participating in the murder of two hundred Jews in a town in Ukraine. After the war, Wiesenthal posed this soldier’s question to a number of leading theologians, writers and other prominent individuals: how would they repond to this request? Could they forgive him? He published their replies in his book, The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness. (I highly, **highly** recommend this book.)
You can read more about this great man here. The Simon Wiesenthal Center, “an international Jewish human rights organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust by fostering tolerance and understanding through community involvement, educational outreach and social action,” was founded in 1977 and inspired The Museum of Tolerance in 1993. In memory of Simon Wiesenthal, please join me in supporting these institutions.
George Santayana wrote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Wiesenthal well understood the wisdom of those words and devoted his life to the pursuit of justice, the promotion of tolerance, teaching us all the lesson of the Holocaust so that mankind would not repeat the horrors of the Nazi era. As a tribute to this great man, remembering the past, let us strive to understand our neighbors and learn to tolerate difference in our fellow man.

National Gay Groups To March In Anti-War Demonstration

September 16, 2005 by admin

Shocking… simply shocking. I never would have guessed! Funny, the Gay Leftists want marriage but hate the institutions of religion… and they protest against the war (one in where we were attacked repeatedly), yet want gays to be allowed in the military. Can you say bi-polar?
Some Gay Groups To Join Iraq War Protest in DC – Washington Blade

United for Peace & Justice, a coalition of more than 1,300 local and national groups, is calling for an end to the war and the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. From Sept. 24-26, the coalition plans to stage demonstrations across the country.
According to its Web site, UPJ coordinated more than 790 anti-war demonstrations worldwide on Feb. 15, 2003, including a New York City rally that brought out at least 500,000 people.
Pride at Work, the gay caucus within the AFL-CIO, is among the organizations preparing to march against the war.
Howard Wallace, vice president of the San Francisco labor council of the AFL-CIO, said gay groups and labor groups on the West Coast are collaborating on social justice issues, from the fight for same-sex marriage rights to ending the U.S. presence in Iraq.
Linking the Iraq war to a generalized assault on civil liberties, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force opposed the war as part of the “Keep America Safe: Win Without War” coalition that included the National Organization for Women and the NAACP. The Task Force is backing the anti-war march by e-mailing supporters and calling on them to participate, according to a spokesperson for the group.

Here’s a real shocker for you…. the protests in DC are on the same day as the Socialist protests in the United Kingdom on the same topic. You mean our gay “leaders” are associated with socialist groups around the world? Huh.
I agree with the wise gay rights activist Frank Kameny who is quoted in the article: “If you try to do everything, you end up not doing anything very well.” Amen, brother.
UPDATE: I apologize for neglecting to mention that Log Cabin Republicans supported the war in Iraq and Chris Barron is quoted in the article.

“Log Cabin is committed to a strong and confident foreign policy,” Christopher Barron, political director of the Log Cabin Republicans wrote in an e-mail. “We support global efforts to win the war on terror. We wouldn’t comment on the propriety of the actions of other organizations. Obviously, each organization is going to do whatever it believes is appropriate in light of its mission.”

September 14, 2005 by admin

If any of the network news organizations cover this poll…. I’ll eat my shorts. (Hat tip: AnkleBitingPundits)
Most interesting nugget:

The Blame Game:
49% of Americans say the media are spending too much time trying to affix blame
48% say the same about Democrat leaders in Congress
31% say the same about Republican leaders in Congress

That’s the sound of Howard Dean’s brow sinking…..

Gay Marriage Intimidation Tactics, Part II

September 13, 2005 by admin

Okay…. I read all of the comments on this posting, so I felt the need to do a second posting. As a challenge.
In the comments section on this posting, if you are in favor of gay marriage and proud of it… please type in your full name, address and home phone number. Keep in mind that those that read this website range from those gay “outing” activists on the radical Left to many conservatives who are curious about a gay conservative to the radical Right folks that know more about beastiality than one should.
Since many of you feel it is okay to publish the names of those for, whatever reasons (political, personal or moral), oppose the idea of gay marriage….. I challenge you: Are you willing to go public with your names and private information to potentially expose yourself to a range of eyes and intentions of good and bad people alike?
Put up or shut up…..

America’s Pharmaceutical Companies Step Up For Katrina Victims

September 6, 2005 by admin

From PhRMA press release:
America’s Pharmaceutical Companies Increase Relief Efforts; Nearly $25 Million in Medicines, Cash Donated So Far
Washington, D.C. (Sept. 1, 2005) – America’s pharmaceutical research companies continue to send comprehensive disaster aid packages to public and private relief organizations to help lessen the suffering of survivors and to stem a looming public health crisis in the Gulf Coast region following Hurricane Katrina.
As of this afternoon, nearly $25 million in medicines, medical supplies and cash has been committed to relief efforts and that number is growing by the hour. In addition, this total does not include the commitment by many of PhRMA’s member companies to “match” contributions by employees which continue to be sent in to charities supporting relief efforts.
“America’s pharmaceutical research companies will continue to provide medicines and money to help struggling, homeless people in the Gulf Coast as they did in the wake of the Asian tsunami. This disaster is unprecedented in American history and must be met with a firm, long-term commitment to help rebuild the lives of those who are facing unimaginable challenges,” said Billy Tauzin, President and CEO of PhRMA, who represented parts of the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast for 25 years as a member of Congress.
The following is a summary of company contributions to date:
