Bad Week For Bush Haters

November 17, 2005 by admin

The Special Prosecutor’s entire investigation into who allegedly leaked Valerie Plame’s allegedly covert status has “sand thrown in its eyes” by one of the liberal media’s darlings. (Woodward Was Told Of Plame More Than Two Years Ago – WaPo.)
The 9/11 Commission is shown to be the fraud that it always was.
Maybe next week, some Democrats will actually put forward a plan to win the global war on terror? But don’t hold your breath.
After all it is has been 1,528 days since our nation was attacked by al-Qaeda (for the umpteenth time since 1992) on September 11th.

People in the hotel must think I’m crazy, because I burst out laughing at seeing this picture on Tammy’s blog this morning.
I’m now headed to the airport, about to endure my ritual United Airlines Torture Experience ™ and fly to the Big Apple to join my new colleagues tomorrow at Pajamas Media.

O’Reilly Vs. San Fran

November 12, 2005 by admin

I nearly doubled over in laughter when I read this item as I awoke this morning…..
O’Reilly Blasted For Coit Tower Comments – KRON4.com

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Supervisor Chris Daly is firing back at Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly for comments he made on his radio show Wednesday that encouraged al-Qaida to “blow up” Coit Tower.
O’Reilly reacted to San Franciscans’ approval of Proposition I, which discourages military recruiters on public high school and college campuses.

Note to San Fran: I don’t advocate a terror attack on you. So I diverge with ole Bill on that part. But I wholeheartedly AGREE with the sentiment behind his remarks and support this proposal he made:

You know, if I’m the president of the United States, I walk right into Union Square, I set up my little presidential podium, and I say, “Listen, citizens of San Francisco, if you vote against military recruiting, you’re not going to get another nickel in federal funds. Fine. You want to be your own country? Go right ahead.” – via ThePoliticalTeen

Smokin’ Bill went over the line when he kept going, though…..

And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we’re not going to do anything about it. We’re going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.

However, I say ‘BRAVO’ for the idea that we stop all Federal funding to San Francisco. Not only due to the vote to stop military recruiting, but also the fact that it has been San Fran LIBERALS that brazenly trampled on the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution by outlawing handgun ownership by residents.
Whatever world they live in… they can have it to themselves. I do not want any of MY tax money going to support a city that clearly does not want to be part of the United States of America. But I certainly don’t want to see these former Americans living in the People’s Republic of Cisco hurt in a terrorist attack. Bill hurt his point tremendously by continuing his rant. Sometimes you just need to stop talking… or blogging. *grin*

Celebrating The American Soldier

November 11, 2005 by admin

In honor of Veteran’s Day, I’d like to join with my fellow gay bloggers who are doing military-related postings today. Mine is pretty simple. I admire every man and woman who has sacrificed, and continues to sacrifice, in order to protect my freedom. I have a number of friends who serve or have served in our armed forces. They are among the most upstanding Americans I have ever met in my life.
Finally, I dedicate this post to my Dad — Bruce M. Carroll, Sr. — an Air Force veteran who served during Vietnam. While he made it through the war, he left the Earth way too soon and I am now older than he was when he died. But I have always admired his service to our country and salute him today as well. Dad, this is for you….

American Soldier by Toby Keith
I’m just trying to be a father
Raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother
Everything to everyone
Up and at ’em, bright and early
I’m all business in my suit
Yeah, I’m dressed up for success
From my head down to my boots
I don’t do it for the money
There’s bills that I can’t pay
I don’t do it for the glory
I just do it anyway
Providing for our future’s my responsibility
Yeah I’m real good under pressure
Being all that I can be
And I can’t call in sick on Mondays
when the weekends been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays
And sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I’m solid, hey I’m steady, hey, I’m true down to the core
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don’t want to die for you
but if dyin’s asked of me
I’ll bear that cross with honor
’cause freedom don’t come free
I’m an American soldier, an American
beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
When Liberty’s in jeopardy, I will always do what’s right
I’m out here on the front line
Sleep’in in peace at night
American soldier, I’m an American soldier

Professional Gaming Athletes

November 7, 2005 by admin

Here’s something I didn’t know was going on out there….. this guy is getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to be a professional video game player.

Game Boy – BusinessWeek

Unbeknownst to almost everyone over 30, professional game playing is becoming a very big deal. There are worldwide tours with stops from Rio de Janeiro to Istanbul. Celebrity players are hounded for autographs and compete for high-stakes prizes. At the CPL World Tour Grand Finals in New York in November, players will compete for a total of $500,000 in cash.

I’m wondering if there might be a future of moneymaking in being a professional blogging athlete? Wishful thinking.

Preparing for a Pandemic

November 2, 2005 by admin

I don’t know about you, but between the President, the Mainstream Media, and the millions of chickens being slaughtered in Asia… .my blood pressure is rising with the prospect of a bird-to-human jump of the Avian Flu. (No, it isn’t Evian Flu…. which is what you get when you taste bad French bathwater.)
Anyway, here are the talking points from the President’s Flu Initiative yesterday. As if my nightmares weren’t populated enough with dirty bombs…..

Safeguarding America Against Pandemic Influenza
Today’s Presidential Action
Today, President Bush Outlined The National Strategy To Safeguard Against The Danger Of Pandemic Influenza. The President discussed the characteristics of the Avian and Pandemic Influenza threat and the Nation’s strategy to detect outbreaks, expand domestic vaccine production capacity, stockpile treatments, prepare to respond to a pandemic, and ensure the health and safety of all Americans.
Ø Because A Pandemic Could Strike At Any Time, The United States Must Prepare Now. Today, the President is requesting $7.1 billion in emergency funding to begin immediately implementing a national strategy for pandemic influenza. By making critical investments now, the Federal government will strengthen our ability to safeguard the American people in the event of a devastating global pandemic – and bring the Nation’s public health and medical infrastructure into the 21st century.
The President’s Request Of $7.1 Billion Will Fund The National Strategy’s Critical Goals Of Safeguarding America. The request includes $251 million to detect and contain outbreaks before they spread around the world; $2.8 billion to accelerate development of cell-culture technology; $800 million for development of new treatments and vaccines; $1.519 billion for the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Defense to purchase influenza vaccines; $1.029 billion to stockpile antiviral medications; and $644 million to ensure that all levels of government are prepared to respond to a pandemic outbreak.
Ø To Help The American People Prepare For A Pandemic, The Federal Government Is Launching A New Website. To equip Americans with accurate information on how to protect themselves and their families, the government is launching www.pandemicflu.gov. This will help Americans stay informed about the government’s preparations and learn what they can do to decrease their risk.

Nude Painting Priest Mum on Gay Marriage

November 1, 2005 by admin

I mean, come on… you just can’t make this stuff up! The headline alone is like a Saturday Night Live sketch in the making!
Priest who paints nude men won’t condemn gay “marriage” – MichNews.com

The Rev. Michael Monti Parise, pastor of St. Andrew Parish in Billerica, Mass., reportedly told a parishioner that he “does not want to talk against gay ‘marriage’” – and it seems there’s a good indication why: Parise likes to paint nude men. I guess one could call him “The Full Monti” priest.

From the good Father’s webpage:

As my style has evolved I am finding that I am expressing myself in an increasingly abstact [sic] manner.

Do you think Pope Benedict will be skimming past this particular parish in his hunt for gay priests?

Was There A Terrorist Attack At Univ. of Okla.?

October 4, 2005 by admin

It appears the mainstream media has ignored a potentially important story that took place this weekend.
A suicide bomber on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

The FBI is continuing its investigation of the death of OU mechanical engineering junior Joel Henry Hinrichs III, who died in an explosion about 100 yards away from a packed Oklahoma Memorial Stadium Saturday night.

NewsBusters says we aren’t getting the full story from former Democrat Senator, now OU Prez David Boren.

University of Oklahoma President David Boren seems determined to have everybody believe Joel Henry Hinrichs III was merely a disturbed young man who decided to commit suicide by blowing himself up within 100 yards of a stadium containing 84,000 screaming fans of Sooner football.
Sorry, I don’t buy it, at least not yet. Here’s why: First, The Daily Oklahoman is reporting authorities found a large cache of bomb-making materials in Hinrichs’ apartment. The cache is so big that the Oklahoman quoted one of the officials on the scene as estimating a full 24 hours would be required to cart away all of the material.
Suicide victims don’t normally accumulate a large amount of bomb-making material in their homes. People intent on blowing up other people do.

How soon we forget that the Al-Qaeda handbook instructs followers to hit such “soft targets” in their War Against America like shopping malls and sports stadiums. (Read here and here.)
Even if there is no terror-related reason for this incident, why is our “mainstream” media ignoring this event in the context of our War on Terror?

Gay Spies Among Us

October 4, 2005 by admin

I have to let you all in on a secret. I have become pretty sure that PatriotPartner and I have unwittingly played a practical joke on our entire neighborhood. We have both decided that our neighbors think we are gay spies.
You see, we have private sector jobs that keep us away from home a lot. And since we have only lived in our community (think Wisteria Lane) less than a year, we just haven’t had time to socialize a lot with the more traditional families who are our neighbors. ‘MarineDaddy’ and his family are a few doors away, BlockCaptain Lady also is not that far down the street, and CommunityLeader BoardMember is just around the corner. We live in a very active, family-oriented community. But we are never home. (Sidenote… our conservative neighbors in the reddest of Red Counties in Northern Virginia accept us as a gay couple and could care less. Shocker, eh?)
When we are home, usually it is one or the other of us… rarely both at a time. And the only time we emerge from our house is to walk the dog (the remaining PatriotPooch). Otherwise, when I’m home I’m in the basement doing my real job, and Partner is at his office. But, again, most of the time one or both of us are flying to parts of the USA for our jobs.
So after just 10 months living here, a ‘For Sale’ sign pops up and our neighbors suddenly want to know…. “Why are you moving” from this great neighborhood. Our answer is usually the traffic (see posting below) and a change of pace from the DC area. But in conversations lately, I found myself giving this other twist to the answer.
“Well, you know since my job and John’s job don’t require living any certain place, as long as we are close to an airport….”
Uh oh. One of the neighbors does know that John’s job involves military-related contract work. So the other night Partner and I looked at each other and started laughing…. “Do you think the neighbors might think we are spies?”
Gay Spies, nonetheless!
Actually, what a perfect cover don’t you think?

Taking the “Politics Test”

October 3, 2005 by admin

I recently took this online “politics” test to see where you are on the political spectrum. Here is where I ended up. No big surprise to me, though some of you may be surprised of how moderate I am, given that the nation is more right-of-center now than when I was growing up.

You are a

Social Conservative
(25% permissive)

and an…

Economic Conservative
(61% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Republican

PatriotPartner scored a little bit more “hard core” as a “Strong Republican.”

“What September 11th Taught Me About Dancing”

September 11, 2005 by admin

In honor of the memory of the victims of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks, I would like to “reprint” the posting I did last year on this anniversary date.
God Bless America.
==============
When I think about September 11, 2001, it is a very visual experience for me. As a child of the television and Internet ages, I suppose that isn’t a surprise. I remember being in my office watching the first TV reports of a “small commuter plane” crash into the World Trade Center. I remember the sense of confusion in my office, two blocks from the White House, and my personal sense of shock and my struggle to start making some decisions about what to do that day. I remember constantly looking out my window into the brilliant blue sky wondering when the next plane was going to come into view into Washington. And I remember how quiet it was on the Metro subway car as I left that city under attack.
But inevitably, as I remember that terrible day, I always return to the stories of three individuals who were directly involved in the events of that day. I find their stories compelling, very visual, and also excellent examples of what makes our country great and its citizens unique and wonderful.
As it turns out, all three of these men are gay Americans. All three went to work that morning as was normal – like all of us did that day – but only one came home that evening. One survived the attacks in New York. One became a hero in the early hours of the War on Terror. And the last died doing what he loved best – helping children learn.Perhaps what keeps me thinking of these three men is that all of their stories involve choices. Choices that are made, or not made, on a daily basis. Choices that seemed insignificant at the time, but have had long lasting and important ramifications.

“Don’t Feature America First” At Ground Zero Memorial

August 21, 2005 by admin

Thanks to Robert for passing this “Take Back The Memorial” update to me. (Link here for full story)

A global network of human rights museums is urging the International Freedom Center to downplay America in its exhibits and programs at Ground Zero, the Daily News has learned.
The outrageous request is the latest controversy to torment the Freedom Center, whose leaders have tried to dispel the perception that it would be a home for America bashers.
“Don’t feature America first,” the IFC has been advised by the consortium of 14 “museums of conscience” that quietly has been consulting with the Freedom Center for the past two years over plans for the hallowed site. “Think internationally, where America is one of the many nations of the world.”

I urge everyone to help “Take Back The Memorial.”
-Bruce (GayPatriot) – gaypatriot2004@aol.com
UPDATE (from GPW): In an editorial, the New York Daily News responds to the aforementioned request to the International Freedom Center:

Consider this [quoting from the museums’ group’s request], too: “The Freedom Center is a caricature of the typical American response to everything (telling every story from an American viewpoint).” Exactly what viewpoint is an American museum on American soil marking an American tragedy supposed to express? Oh, right. Bangladeshi.

Equal time for all loved ones of fallen heroes

August 18, 2005 by admin

I encourage y’all to read the entirety of Ronald R. Griffin’s editorial today on OpinionJournal.com. Like Cindy Sheehan, he lost a son in Iraq, but she does not speak for him — nor for many of the parents of our fallen heroes.
One of my readers claimed it was “immoral and down right vicious” to try to attack the grieving mother of a dead soldier. By that argument, it would be vicious to attack Mr. Griffin, a grieving father, who supports the President’s leadership in Iraq:

Thirty-five years ago, a president faced a similar dilemma in Vietnam. He gave in and we got “peace with honor.” To this day, I am still searching for that honor. Today, those who defend our freedom every day do so as volunteers with a clear and certain purpose. Today, they have in their commander in chief someone who will not allow us to sink into self-pity. I will not allow him to. The amazing part about talking to the people left behind is that I did not want them to stop. After speaking to so many I have come away with the certainty of their conviction that in a large measure it’s because of the deeds and sacrifices of their fallen heroes that this is a better and safer world we now live in.

Mr. Griffin spoke with a number of

parents and loved ones of fallen heroes in an attempt to find out their reactions to all the attention Mrs. Sheehan has attracted. What emerges from those conversations is an empathy for Mrs. Sheehan’s suffering but a fundamental disagreement with her politics.

One parent believes Mrs. Sheehan “is dishonoring all soldiers” while the author’s wife says. “She is no more important than any other mother.”
She’s right because each one of the parents of our fallen heroes is important. Mrs. Sheehan no more speaks for all of them than does Mr. Griffin. Each parent, each widow, each relative left behind should have a place in our heart for the loss they have sustained. We should acknowledge as well the quality of their children, individuals who volunteered to serve in our armed forces, aware, when they did, that they could lose their lives defending our freedom. Mr. Griffin is right to ask for “equal time to other loved ones of fallen heroes. Feel the intensity of their love, their pride and the sorrow.” As we feel that intensity, we should be ever sensitive to their grief as we honor the service of their sons and daughters.

Cindy Sheehan and the liberation of Iraq

August 15, 2005 by admin

A reader wrote in yesterday wondering if we were going to post on Cindy Sheehan. I agree with him that this is an “incredibly rich topic,” so thought I would share a few thoughts.
As least as far back as the Greeks, people noted the particular sadness of the death of a child. In the Fifth Century before the Common Era, the historian Herodotus wrote, “In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons.” I cannot imagine the grief that Ms. Sheehan and thousands of other parents have experienced at the loss of their son or daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan. Just as many parents grieved on September 11, 2001, when their children’s lives were cut short. While some of those parents oppose the war, many continue to support the president even after the loss of their child.
Most of the parents bear their grief in private. Ms. Sheehan has made a public spectacle of herself. As EMT 907 noted last week on his blog, she changed her story about her meeting with the president. Even though she did not support the president’s policies in Iraq, she initially described her meeting with the president in positive terms. Right after the meeting, she said, I now know he’s sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis . . . . I know he’s sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he’s a man of faith.” But, last week (more than a year after the meeting), she claimed on CNN that Mr. Bush treated the meeting “like a party.”
She now thinks that if it were not for the Internet, “we would already be a fascist state.” I can’t think of a single fascist state which allows its citizens to protest so vociferously so close to the chief executive’s summer retreat while that very state does not prevent the media from reporting such protests.

“War of the Worlds” and September 11th

July 1, 2005 by admin

(Writing at 35,000 feet somewhere over the USA at 1:30PM Eastern time on Thursday)
(WARNING: Potential Spoilers are included in this post)
Yesterday before we left for our California/Mexico cruise adventure, PatriotPartner and I decided to see Steven Spielberg?s ?War of the Worlds? on opening day. I?m not really sure what prompted us to do so since we are usually the ?wait to see it on DVD? guys in the neighborhood. But we both had taken the day off of work and figured it wouldn?t be too crowded at the 3:30PM showing?.luckily we were correct.
Earlier in the day I had read the Washington Post?s Stephen Hunter’s review of the new movie. The idea of seeing an action-packed summer movie in the spirit of ?Raiders of the Lost Ark? suddenly appealed to me on a hot and humid summer day. It also served as a way to procrastinate from the dreaded job of packing for our trip.
Within the first 30 minutes of the incredible film, it was quite apparent to me that I was witnessing something I have been longing for during the past three years ? a good, nail-biting movie that truly captures America after September 11th. Far too many months have gone by since we were attacked and since our men and women have been fighting the global terror threat for Hollywood to have kept up its fa?ade that 9/11 did not happen.
