Iraq President’s ‘Thank You’ To America

September 14, 2005 by admin

Yesterday….at the White House…. in case you missed it since the network news doesn’t cover good news from Iraq:

PRESIDENT TALABANI: Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President, for your kind remarks. It is honor for me to stand here today as a representative of free Iraq. It is an honor to present the world’s youngest democracy.
In the name of Iraqi people, I say to you, Mr. President, and to the glorious American people, thank you, thank you. Thank you, because you liberated us from the worst kind of dictatorship. Our people suffered too much from this worst kind of dictatorship.
Thank you, and thanks to the United States, there are now 15 million Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq liberated by your courageous leadership and decision to liberate us, Mr. President.
We agree with Mr. President Bush that democracy is the solution to the problems of the Middle East. Mr. President, you are a visionary, great statesman. We salute you. We are grateful to you. We will never forget what you have done for our people.
We are proud to say openly and to repeat it that we are partners of the United States of America in fighting against tyranny, terrorism, and for democracy. It is something we are not shy to say and will repeat it everywhere, here and in Iraq, and the United Nations and everywhere.
Iraq is America’s ally in the war against terrorism. Our soldiers are now fighting side-by-side with your brave soldiers, now and every day. We have captured many senior elements of al Qaeda. We killed many of them, and we have also many of them in our prisons.

That’s from the elected President of Iraq. Just in case you missed it….

Scenes from Crawford: “You Don’t Speak for Me, Cindy”

August 28, 2005 by admin

There are some good photos here of the pro-Bush rallies this weekend in Crawford, TX. The Washington Post reports the influx of Bush supporters resulted in over 8,500 people in Crawford. Here is just a sample.

Also of note, Dina Burnett, whose husband Tom Burnett was one of the Flight 93 heroes on 9/11, flew into Crawford this weekend from Little Rock to support the President.

The Racism of the Anti-War Movement

August 28, 2005 by admin

Damning…..
COMMENTARY: The Racism of the Anti-War Movement – Jim Forsyth, WOAI NewsRadio

Even if you drink every last drop of the anti war Kool Aid, even if you are convinced that President Bush was ordered by the Chairman of Halliburton to start the Iraq war and that he intentionally lied to the American people about the existence of weapons of mass destruction, the simple fact is that today, there is demonstrably more freedom for the people of Iraq and for the people of Afghanistan, some 50 million brown skinned Muslims.
President Bush is actually the greatest liberator of Muslims in history, considering that there weren’t 50 million people in the entire MIddle East when Saladin beat back the Crusader hordes. But to the anti war activists, providing freedom from slavery, democratic and economic opportunity to brown skinned people isn’t worth the sacrifice of white Americans. Good thing they weren’t around when Lincoln was drafting the Emancipation Proclamation.

Sunday GP Mailbag

August 28, 2005 by admin

I received this email on Saturday and was quite moved. When I was interviewed by the Philadelphia Gay News, the reporter asked me what kind of “mix” of readers/commenters the GayPatriot blog had. I responded that my sense was about 50% supportive/like-minded gays, 30% violently opposed/leftist gays, and 20% straight, conservative and curious about a gay Republican.
I’m not sure if this reader falls precisely into that last category. But one of the main reasons I kept this blog going was to reach out to straight conservatives to make them see that not everyone in the gay community thinks America is bad, is against capitalism, is anti-religion, and is supportive of pro-terrorist/anti-war groups.

I found your blog a few weeks back, and have added it to my list to read on a regular basis. I’ve found your writing to be precise and your opinions quite reasonable and fair, and usually pretty accurate as well. It’s always refreshing to see someone who can see the big picture.
As to myself, I’m a very straight man, with a wife and three kids. I’m also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. I was an aircrewman in the US Navy, and have a little over 4,000 hours of Combat Aircrew time in P-3 Orions, and some hours in helos. But I digress.
My interest in the gay community has grown over the years because two of my shipmates were gay. They were fine men, with whom I spent many hours, both on missions, and just on liberty. They trusted me with their lives, and I trusted mine to them. Both loved life, and died far too early from HIV/AIDS. That was nearly 20 years ago, when so little was known about the disease and how to combat it. I think of them from time to time, and can still see their youthful faces, so full of life, with such good souls. I miss them, as I do other shipmates who died in service to their country, lost in their youth fulfilling a promise to the nation to be there if it called.
Maybe it’s survivor’s guilt, or maybe just waxing nostalgic for my own youth. Not that I’m old, mind you, just older (I turned 50 this past February). It might be that I was left behind to tell their stories. If so, I’m a poor choice for that. Perhaps though, I might yet give it a shot. We’ll see.
Anyway, enough rambling. I just wanted to say thanks for the work you are doing. It’s important to cut through the politics and the shrill voices of the victim-cults. We are all under attack by a cunning and devious enemy, who on one hand proclaims the moral rightousness of his cause, while his other is smeared with the blood of innocents. Folks who cry the loudest about oppression and the loss of “rights” haven’t a clue as to what life is like under the Taliban, which is where our enemies want to drag us.
You fellows get it. For that, you have my thanks and my respect. If you are ever up in Maine, feel free to drop by. I don’t have much, but what I have is there to share. I can only promise you a good cup of coffee, a good meal, and a warm welcome.

Thanks for the kind thoughts! But more importantly, thanks for your service and sacrifice to your nation. We are proud of you.

What Do Rev. Fred Phelps and Cindy Sheehan Have In Common?

August 27, 2005 by admin

They are now inextricably linked together as radical nutcases masquerading as anti-war protestors but instead spouting similar deceitful, misleading, anti-American statements that will probably be used in an upcoming al-Qaeda recruiting video.
Funeral protests merciless – The Leaf Chronicle (Clarksville, TN) — (Hat Tip – Instapundit)

Small, pitiful groups of perverse traitors cloaked in a warped, hate-filled and degraded version of Christianity are tirelessly traveling across America, cruelly protesting at the funerals of American soldiers killed in Iraq.
They are scheduled to stop in Middle Tennessee today, in Smyrna and Ashland City, to dishonor the solemn services and add to the horror and grief of those who mourn Staff Sgt. Asbury F. Hawn of Lebanon and Spc. Gary Reese Jr. of Ashland City. The Army National Guardsmen served together in the 278th Regimental Combat Team and died in an enemy attack Aug. 13 in Iraq.
Members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., will be there, not to spread the comforting Gospel of Jesus Christ, but to spew a disgustingly vulgar and crude message of gay hatred while celebrating the death of U.S. soldiers.
This evil little congregation, led by Fred Phelps, gained infamy for showing up at the funerals of homosexuals to taunt family and friends and to promote their own unique brand of hatred. This summer they started picketing the funerals of soldiers killed in battle with placards that say, “We hate gays” and “Thank God for dead soldiers.”
Their Web site, www.godhatesgays.com, promotes the protests in crude press releases that say, “They turned America over to fags; they’re coming home in body bags.”

So let me connect the dots for you…. despite being a community specifically targeted by Islamic terrorists, the Gay Leftists oppose President Bush at every turn, they appear in anti-war protests organized by ANSWER (a communist-funded group), and now the sworn enemy of the gay community — Fred Phelps — sounds exactly like many of the rabid anti-war protestors who wave rainbow flags.
What do YOU make of this?

President Speaks on War on Terror (full text at link) – WhiteHouse.gov

Our nation is engaged in a global war on terror that affects the safety and security of every American. In Iraq, Afghanistan and across the world, we face dangerous enemies who want to harm our people, folks who want to destroy our way of life.
There are few things in life more difficult than seeing a loved one go off to war. And here in Idaho, a mom named Tammy Pruett — (applause) — I think she’s here — (laughter) — knows that feeling six times over. (Applause.) Tammy has four sons serving in Iraq right now with the Idaho National Guard — Eric, Evan, Greg and Jeff. Last year, her husband Leon and another son, Eren, returned from Iraq, where they helped train Iraqi firefighters in Mosul. Tammy says this — and I want you to hear this — “I know that if something happens to one of the boys, they would leave this world doing what they believe, what they think is right for our country. And I guess you couldn’t ask for a better way of life than giving it for something that you believe in.” America lives in freedom because of families like the Pruetts.

Images from 9/11

August 23, 2005 by admin

There is a review of the second and final installment of “Inside 9/11” over at The Malcontent — “This Thing Is Exhausting.”
Malcontent’s posting also has two video clips taken from the “Zero Hour” episode which aired Monday night.
I would like to link to one of them here. It is footage that I have never seen before…. though I have known it existed. Bodies falling from the WTC. People jumping to, as one of the people in the clip says, “escape the hell they found themselves in.” This is very graphic footage, but also very important. This is what our nation is up against and we must never forget that this worldwide Islamic terror movement wants to have more images like this.
This is what they consider success in their war against us…..The Bodies (video link with graphic footage)
As reported earlier this week, this National Geographic special closes with the words of Osama bin Laden: “As much as you value life, we love death.”

“Don’t Feature America First” At Ground Zero Memorial

August 21, 2005 by admin

Thanks to Robert for passing this “Take Back The Memorial” update to me. (Link here for full story)

A global network of human rights museums is urging the International Freedom Center to downplay America in its exhibits and programs at Ground Zero, the Daily News has learned.
The outrageous request is the latest controversy to torment the Freedom Center, whose leaders have tried to dispel the perception that it would be a home for America bashers.
“Don’t feature America first,” the IFC has been advised by the consortium of 14 “museums of conscience” that quietly has been consulting with the Freedom Center for the past two years over plans for the hallowed site. “Think internationally, where America is one of the many nations of the world.”

I urge everyone to help “Take Back The Memorial.”
-Bruce (GayPatriot) – gaypatriot2004@aol.com
UPDATE (from GPW): In an editorial, the New York Daily News responds to the aforementioned request to the International Freedom Center:

Consider this [quoting from the museums’ group’s request], too: “The Freedom Center is a caricature of the typical American response to everything (telling every story from an American viewpoint).” Exactly what viewpoint is an American museum on American soil marking an American tragedy supposed to express? Oh, right. Bangladeshi.

Let Sheehan Meet The President

August 21, 2005 by admin

(Hat tip: GayOrbit)
After reading this post from Laurence Simon, I have also changed my mind. Let Sheehan Meet The President…..

I have a very simple solution to the entire Cindy Sheehan affair.
Let her meet with the President.
That’s right. I’ve finally changed my tune.
Let her meet with the President who thwarted the United Nations Security Council and made the case for war.
Let her meet with the President who hindered the progress of United Nations weapons inspectors.
Let her meet with the President who lied about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction that they’d use on Americans.
Let her meet with the President who killed thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians.
Let her meet with the President who came to office in a rigged election, and maintained his grip on power through rigged voting and militaristic patriotism.
Let her meet with the President who turned his country’s media into a mouthpiece for his fascist and discriminatory policies.
Let her meet with the President who transformed his country into a single-party dictatorship, sowing fear and resentment against any who dared to oppose his iron-fisted rule.
Let her meet with the President who proved himself a coward by fleeing when his country was attacked.
Let her meet with the President who should be brought up on war crimes charges for his dastardly misdeeds.
Let her meet with the President who spent billions of dollars on weapons while social welfare programs went unfunded and the poor continue to suffer for it to this day.
Let her meet with the President who has a track record of invading Arab Muslim countries for oil.
Let her meet with the President who knew full well about the bloodthirsty torture and murderous horrors at Abu Ghraib.
That’s right. Let her meet with Saddam Hussein.

Beautiful…

Islamic Fundraising Connection Illegal Immigrant Project in VA

August 21, 2005 by admin

This is an interesting development. There seems to be a connection between Northern Virginia Islamic fundraising efforts and the day-laborer (ie – illegal immigrant) worksite pickup project in Herndon, VA.
Brief Encounter At Herndon Store Inspired A Charity – Washington Post (subscription required)

Over the objections of hundreds of residents who fear it will bring crime and disorder to the neighborhood, Herndon’s Town Council granted Project Hope and Harmony permission last week to build and oversee such a site in the parking lot behind a former police station. The coalition expects to have it running in two to four months.
Project Hope and Harmony is itself a work in progress. It is an umbrella group, not a nonprofit organization. Although its members plan to file federal papers to become a nonprofit, the application for a grant of about $175,000 from Fairfax County to run the site was made in the name of Reston Interfaith, one of the groups that is part of the coalition.
For Hossain, helping immigrants, most from Central and South America, is a Muslim issue. Charity is one of the five pillars of Islam. So he raised money from Muslim businessmen in Herndon to buy 400 winter coats for the laborers, brought them food through another charity he started, called Food Source, and even rounded up day laborers to attend a Thanksgiving dinner at an Iraqi restaurant where falafel, not turkey, was served.

Given the Al-Qaeda connections repeatedly found in Northern Virginia after 9/11, is anyone else but me disturbed and more than curious about this direct connection between Islamic fundraising and illegal immigration?

Soldier’s Dad: “Not In My Son’s Name”

August 19, 2005 by admin

From NRO’s Media Blog:

“Not Once Did They Ever Ask Me If They Could Use My Son’s Name”
On CNN’s Your World Today, Gary Qualls, the father of Louis W. Qualls, held up the white cross bearing his son’s name, which he pulled out of the ground where Cindy Sheehan and her followers had placed it without his permission.
He told YWT anchor Jim Clancy, “Not once did they ever ask me if they could use my son’s name.” He spoke of his son’s sacrifice, of how his son believed in what he was doing, and how Cindy Sheehan doesn’t speak for him.
How many other names on Cindy Sheehan’s crosses are the names of soldiers who would find her politics despicable?

Message to Cindy Sheehan….from an Iraqi fighting for freedom

August 19, 2005 by admin

I think Mohammed at “Iraq The Model” has the best response to Cindy Sheehan that I’ve seen yet. Not only does he have the right message for her, he is the best messenger.
A Message to Cindy Sheehan – Iraq The Model

Ma’am, we asked for your nation’s help and we asked you to stand with us in our war and your nation’s act was (and still is) an act of ultimate courage and unmatched sense of humanity. Our request is justified, death was our daily bread and a million Iraqi mothers were expecting death to knock on their doors at any second to claim someone from their families.
Your face doesn’t look strange to me at all; I see it everyday on endless numbers of Iraqi women who were struck by losses like yours.
Our fellow country men and women were buried alive, cut to pieces and thrown in acid pools and some were fed to the wild dogs while those who were lucky enough ran away to live like strangers and the Iraqi mother was left to grieve one son buried in an unfound grave and another one living far away who she might not get to see again.
We did nothing to deserve all that suffering, well except for a dream we had; a dream of living like normal people do.
We cried out of joy the day your son and his comrades freed us from the hands of the devil and we went to the streets not believing that the nightmare is over.
We practiced our freedom first by kicking and burning the statues and portraits of the hateful idol who stole 35 years from the life of a nation.
For the first time air smelled that beautiful, that was the smell of freedom.

NJ ATTORNEY GENERAL FACES IMPEACHMENT MOVE – 9/11 Fund Scandal Update

August 19, 2005 by admin

As first reported here late Wednesday night, New Jersey Attorney General Peter Harvey is now facing the prospect of impeachment due to the growing scandal of political use of Homeland Security funds.
On Thursday, New Jersey Assemblyman Sean Kean began the impeachment process. The full details of this development are printed below from Assemblyman Kean’s press release.

For Release:
August 18, 2005
KEAN CALLS FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
PETER HARVEY TO BE IMPEACHED
SAYS HARVEY IS NOT FIT TO CONTINUE IN HIS JOB
Assemblyman Sean Kean, in light of the current controversy surrounding the distribution of state homeland security grants, has directed the non-partisan Office of Legislative Services (OLS) to prepare articles of impeachment against Attorney General Peter Harvey.
“I believe the time has come for Peter Harvey to be removed from his position as Attorney General,” said Kean, R-Monmouth. “The Attorney General has allowed political concerns to influence the distribution essential security funds and should be removed because of misconduct.”
Kean said the charges of impeachment are for malfeasance and the misappropriation of state funds allocated for the protection of New Jersey residents in a time of war.
“The Attorney General, as the highest ranking law enforcement official in the state, had the legal and ethical obligation to award these grant based solely on security needs, not politics,” added Kean. “Politics should have never been allowed to influence the grant distribution process.”
“Mr. Harvey played games with our security and is no longer fit to hold the office of Attorney General,” continued Kean. “His repeated ethical transgressions and illegal misuse of state funding is inexcusable. He must be held accountable for this gaffe.”
Kean also said Acting Governor Codey should take steps to rectify this glaring error.
“As a matter of integrity, Acting Governor Codey should take immediate action to ensure that never again will the grant process be tainted by the ugliness of politics,” Kean said. “I also believe that towns who were overlooked because of political considerations should be allowed to resubmit their applications. Perhaps this time, they will give every legitimate application equal consideration.”

The BadHairBlog is reporting on this as well with more details from the Newark Star-Ledger….. The Democrats’ 9/11 Slush Fund, continued
Stay tuned for more developments on this growing scandal….

Equal time for all loved ones of fallen heroes

August 18, 2005 by admin

I encourage y’all to read the entirety of Ronald R. Griffin’s editorial today on OpinionJournal.com. Like Cindy Sheehan, he lost a son in Iraq, but she does not speak for him — nor for many of the parents of our fallen heroes.
One of my readers claimed it was “immoral and down right vicious” to try to attack the grieving mother of a dead soldier. By that argument, it would be vicious to attack Mr. Griffin, a grieving father, who supports the President’s leadership in Iraq:

Thirty-five years ago, a president faced a similar dilemma in Vietnam. He gave in and we got “peace with honor.” To this day, I am still searching for that honor. Today, those who defend our freedom every day do so as volunteers with a clear and certain purpose. Today, they have in their commander in chief someone who will not allow us to sink into self-pity. I will not allow him to. The amazing part about talking to the people left behind is that I did not want them to stop. After speaking to so many I have come away with the certainty of their conviction that in a large measure it’s because of the deeds and sacrifices of their fallen heroes that this is a better and safer world we now live in.

Mr. Griffin spoke with a number of

parents and loved ones of fallen heroes in an attempt to find out their reactions to all the attention Mrs. Sheehan has attracted. What emerges from those conversations is an empathy for Mrs. Sheehan’s suffering but a fundamental disagreement with her politics.

One parent believes Mrs. Sheehan “is dishonoring all soldiers” while the author’s wife says. “She is no more important than any other mother.”
She’s right because each one of the parents of our fallen heroes is important. Mrs. Sheehan no more speaks for all of them than does Mr. Griffin. Each parent, each widow, each relative left behind should have a place in our heart for the loss they have sustained. We should acknowledge as well the quality of their children, individuals who volunteered to serve in our armed forces, aware, when they did, that they could lose their lives defending our freedom. Mr. Griffin is right to ask for “equal time to other loved ones of fallen heroes. Feel the intensity of their love, their pride and the sorrow.” As we feel that intensity, we should be ever sensitive to their grief as we honor the service of their sons and daughters.

Malkin Update on 9/11 Fund Scandal by NJ Democrats – GayPatriot
This evening, I can report exclusively that this scandal will result in impeachment proceedings against NJ State Attorney General Peter Harvey, perhaps as early as Thursday.
Sources in NJ tell GayPatriot that the AG will be accused of misappropriation of homeland security funds in a time of war. Recent news reports have revealed that Harvey’s office determined where the funding went.

The president’s attitude toward our fallen heroes & their families

August 16, 2005 by admin

In an excellent piece, Michael Barone asks, “How much coverage would the press have given a World War II-era Cindy Sheehan who camped outside Hyde Park or Warm Springs demanding to meet with President Roosevelt?”
After offering some anecdotes of that Democratic president’s meeting with wounded soldiers during World War II, Barone turns to an erstwhile opponent of the president, John McCain, to describe how our current president handles similar meetings:

Look, I’ve been with the president of the United States when he has met with the families of those brave young men and women who have sacrificed. I have seen his compassion, I have seen his love, I have seen his concern. So any charge of insensitivity or uncaring on the part of this president, is absolutely false. He cares and he grieves. . . . I have seen him, I have seen his care, and I have seen him grieve. And I’m sure he wouldn’t like to hear me say this, but I saw him afterwards. He was very, very grieved. And that’s the job of the president of the United States. He fully appreciates the tragedy of the loss of these brave young Americans.

So, why then, I wonder, is the media giving so much attention to antics of one angry relative and so little attention to the reality of the president’s visits with relatives of our fallen heroes?
Hat tip: Polipundit‘s Lorie Byrd. And be sure to read Barone’s post as well as the Anchoress’ post on the president’s meetings with the grieving families.
